{"id":855,"date":"2026-09-02T15:51:52","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T15:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monkey.ug\/?p=855"},"modified":"2026-09-02T15:51:53","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T15:51:53","slug":"busoga-kingdom-postpones-kyabazinga-gabulas-coronation-anniversary-to-honour-king-oyo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monkey.ug\/index.php\/2026\/09\/02\/busoga-kingdom-postpones-kyabazinga-gabulas-coronation-anniversary-to-honour-king-oyo\/","title":{"rendered":"Busoga Kingdom Postpones Kyabazinga Gabula\u2019s Coronation Anniversary to Honour King Oyo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Busoga Kingdom has postponed the 12th coronation anniversary celebrations of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV to allow Ugandans to attend the burial of the late Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The celebrations, initially planned for September 13, 2026, will now take place on Saturday, September 19, at the Mayuge District Headquarters grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision was announced by the Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, Owekitibwa Ekisengede Katuukiro Dr Joseph Muwawala, in a statement issued through the Office of the Katuukiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The change follows the death of King Oyo, who passed away on August 26 at a hospital in the United States where he had been admitted for a medical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The medical condition for which the Tooro monarch had been admitted has not been officially disclosed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Busoga Kingdom statement, the original date of the Kyabazinga&#8217;s anniversary celebrations coincides with the burial of the late Tooro King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The kingdom therefore decided to move the event so that its subjects and other Ugandans can attend the burial without having to choose between the two major cultural events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muwawala confirmed that the 12th coronation anniversary will now be marked on September 19 at the Mayuge District Headquarters grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would like to inform all the subjects of His Majesty Isebantu Kyabazinga and the general public that the 12th Coronation Anniversary Celebrations slated for 13th September 2026 have been postponed to Saturday 19th September 2026 at Mayuge District Headquarters grounds,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The postponement places the celebrations one week after the original date while allowing the burial arrangements for the late Tooro monarch to proceed without a clash with the Busoga anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muwawala said the decision was also intended as a gesture of honour towards the deceased king.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis has been done to honour and allow all Ugandans attend the burial of the fallen monarch of Obukama bwa Tooro Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV which shall coincide with the 12th Coronation Anniversary Celebrations of Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development brings together two significant moments on Uganda&#8217;s cultural calendar, with the Busoga Kingdom adjusting its programme in response to the death of the Tooro monarch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>King Oyo died on August 26 while receiving medical care in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kingdom of Tooro has also announced that his body is expected to arrive in Uganda at 10am on Friday, rather than the previously announced Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Details about the burial programme and exact burial location are not provided in the available information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the main coronation anniversary celebrations have been moved, the kingdom has confirmed that Gabula Day will go ahead as scheduled. The annual commemoration is set for September 9 in Buyende.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will also provide an opportunity for Busoga Kingdom to honour the late Tooro King through a formal eulogy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMeanwhile the Gabula Day commemoration marked for the 9th September at Buyende shall go on and the ceremony shall be used to eulogize the fallen Omukama of Tooro,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision means that Busoga&#8217;s September programme will retain the Gabula Day event before the rescheduled coronation anniversary later in the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The September 19 celebration remains the next confirmed date for the Kyabazinga&#8217;s 12th coronation anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No details have been provided about the full programme, guest list or other activities planned for the rescheduled celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muwawala concluded the statement by paying tribute to the late Tooro monarch. \u201cMay the Soul of our departed monarch rest in eternal peace.
