Kampala’s Sunday social scene got a music and cocktail touch as the Don Julio Tequila Sundowner brought together food, drinks and live entertainment at Mediterraneo Restaurant in Kololo.
The rooftop event started at 2pm and carried on into the evening, giving guests a setting to socialise while moving between cocktails, tequila and music.
Don Julio was at the centre of the experience, with guests served the tequila in different styles, including neat shots, Palomas and margaritas.
The afternoon also had a strong visual element, with skull-shaped shot glasses featuring among the serving details.
Guests arrived in a range of outfits, including corsets, satin dresses, pumps and stilettos, adding to the social atmosphere of the rooftop gathering.
The entertainment programme brought together a band performance, local DJs and a guest DJ from Paris.
Sinodevassy Band provided one of the live entertainment sets, combining saxophone and drums with a DJ mix.
The line-up also featured Selector Jay, DJ Anselm and DJ Litto, who kept the music going as the afternoon moved towards night.
The biggest performance came later when Paris-based DJ Phaphane took over the decks.
Phaphane, an electronic music artist and DJ known for his work with Amapiano and Afro dance music in Europe, brought a combination of Amapiano, Afro House and Gqom to the Kampala audience.
His set drew guests onto the dance floor, with familiar choruses and popular anthems prompting singalongs and dance routines.
Some guests also used their phones to record moments from the party as the music and socialising continued.
The mix of music styles gave the event a broad entertainment programme, moving from the semi-live performance of Sinodevassy Band to DJ sets and Phaphane’s electronic sound.
For guests, the afternoon was built around the combination of drinks, food and music rather than a single entertainment performance.
Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager, Tequila and Rum, East Africa, said the brand’s focus was on creating experiences where consumers could enjoy tequila while spending time with friends.
“As Don Julio, we are committed to giving our consumers the best experiences. We love to see our consumers toast to small and big achievements with friends, which was the thought behind the bottle designs of our tequila ranges; for people to see each other and have fun while having tequila,” said Nandekya.
The event reflected that approach by combining Don Julio servings with food, music and a social setting.
Guests could choose between neat tequila shots, Palomas and margaritas as they moved around the rooftop.
The event also featured themed serving details, including skull-shaped shot glasses.
The drinks were part of an experience that continued from the afternoon into the night, with the music programme providing the main entertainment throughout.
Phaphane’s appearance gave the Kampala event an additional international element, with the Paris-based DJ bringing sounds associated with Amapiano, Afro House and Gqom.
His set also connected with the audience through recognisable choruses and popular anthems, leading to singalongs and dance routines.
The performance followed sets from Selector Jay, DJ Anselm and DJ Litto, as well as Sinodevassy Band.
The combination allowed the event to move between live instrumentation and electronic DJ sets while maintaining the focus on social entertainment.
There were no details provided on the specific songs performed by the DJs or the exact number of people who attended.
The event continued into the night, with guests dancing, socialising and taking photos and videos on their phones.
The event ended after an afternoon and evening of food, cocktails, tequila and music at Mediterraneo Restaurant’s rooftop.
There are no confirmed details in the available information about another Don Julio event in Uganda.
For now, the Tequila Sundowner provided a meeting point for Kampala’s nightlife and cocktail scene, bringing together local entertainment acts and a Paris-based DJ.
The Don Julio Tequila Sundowner closed with guests still engaged with the music, drinks and social atmosphere, leaving the event centred on the combination of tequila, entertainment and time spent with friends.
