Kampala’s ever-evolving skyline just got a celebrity twist, and this time, it’s Bebe Cool trading studio time for construction boots.
The Gagamel boss is quietly building a string of stylish cottages in Kiwatule, turning a once soggy stretch of swampy land into what insiders describe as an exclusive retreat near his father’s recreational centre.
When this reporter visited the site, the transformation was already in full swing.
Earth movers rumbled through the area, dredging and raising the land, while workers busied themselves with foundation work and perimeter walls.
A narrow murram road cuts through the site, guiding activity deeper into what is shaping up to be a private, tucked-away development.
“It’s a serious project,” a neighbour shared. “This is not just a side hustle, it’s a long-term investment.”
Estimates place the cost at over Shs2 billion, positioning it among the more ambitious celebrity real estate ventures in Kampala today.
The cottages are expected to blend comfort and privacy, likely appealing to high-end clients seeking quiet escapes within the city.
But as the project rises, so do questions.
Kiwatule has seen rapid development in recent years, and wetlands like this one have increasingly come under pressure.
Environmental observers warn that reclaiming swamp land could disrupt natural drainage systems, a sensitive issue in a city already prone to flooding.
Still, the project reflects a bigger shift: Uganda’s biggest stars are thinking beyond fame, building legacies in brick and mortar.
For Bebe Cool, it’s another evolution, from chart-topping hits to concrete foundations, proving that even in retirement from the stage someday, the hustle doesn’t stop.
