Police say a physical altercation linked to a personal dispute preceded the fatal injuries suffered by Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses in Kampala.
Matovu died after sustaining severe injuries during an incident at Kibuli Depot in Makindye Division on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident began at about 5:30am when Matovu visited the residence of his girlfriend.
Police allege that Matovu and the woman were preparing to leave when they were confronted by a male suspect who had previously been in a relationship with the same woman.
A physical fight reportedly followed the confrontation, leaving Matovu with severe bodily injuries.
A local boda boda rider later rushed the musician to Kibuli Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that he had died from his injuries.
Police have since taken the female companion into custody as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Rachael Kawala said the early findings point to a physical altercation, but investigators have not yet established the full circumstances.
“Following the arrest of the female who was in the company of the deceased, preliminary information indicates that the incident may have arisen from a physical altercation,”
Kawala stressed that the police account remains preliminary as investigators work to establish what happened before, during and after the reported confrontation.
“However, the exact circumstances surrounding the confrontation and subsequent death are yet to be fully established.”
Police said the male suspect has been identified and is believed to have fled the scene.
