Police and security agencies have identified the main suspect in the killing of Ugandan rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, whose death has shocked the sporting community and the public.
Gongodyo died on Friday after suffering severe injuries during a violent attack allegedly carried out by a group of boda-boda riders.
The incident happened between Ntinda and Bukoto in Kampala.
According to investigators, the prime suspect has been identified as Obed Muyombya.
Authorities believe Muyombya operates as a boda-boda rider at a stage opposite Middle East Restaurant, located about 500 metres from where the attack occurred.
Security teams have since launched a manhunt to track him down.
His current whereabouts remain unknown.
The case gained widespread attention after disturbing video footage of the assault began circulating on social media.
The footage shows a man dressed in a yellow T-shirt repeatedly hitting Gongodyo with what appears to be a heavy log.
The rugby star sustained critical injuries during the attack.
He was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, Gongodyo succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
His death has sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over mob violence in Kampala.
Investigators say progress is being made in the case.
So far, three individuals have been arrested and are helping police with ongoing investigations.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of those in custody.
Police are continuing to review video evidence and gather witness statements to establish exactly what happened before and during the fatal assault.
Members of the public have been urged to cooperate with investigators by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
As the search for Muyombya continues, family, friends, teammates, and supporters are demanding justice for the fallen rugby star whose life was cut short in a brutal act of violence.
