Nyege Nyege Mirror World to Debut in Brussels as Ugandan Festival Expands into Europe

The Nyege Nyege Mirror World will make its debut in Brussels, Belgium, this September, marking the first major European expansion of the Ugandan-born festival that has spent more than a decade building an international presence through music, touring and creative collaborations.

Scheduled for September 25 and 26 at La Fabriek CityGate, the event will bring together more than 40 artists across three stages while also featuring exhibitions, film screenings, performances and immersive cultural experiences.

The expansion represents a new chapter for Nyege Nyege, which began on the banks of the Nile in Uganda before growing into a year-round creative platform that extends far beyond its annual festival.

Over the years, the festival has become known for spotlighting underground music and introducing audiences to emerging artists who may not have received mainstream exposure.

Its activities have also expanded beyond the annual gathering through a record label, a touring network, artists and creative collaborations that keep the brand active throughout the year.

That wider ecosystem now supports nearly 400 performances annually in countries including Brazil, Germany, Japan, China, Australia and across Europe.

Those performances create opportunities for Ugandan and African artists to perform before international audiences while strengthening the festival’s presence outside Uganda.

The Brussels edition is designed to introduce European audiences to the creativity, innovation and experimental approach that have become associated with the Nyege Nyege brand.

Rather than focusing solely on live music, the programme will combine performances with exhibitions, film screenings and immersive cultural experiences spread across three stages.

Organisers have already begun ticket sales for the inaugural edition. Wave One tickets are currently priced at €15 for Friday, €20 for Saturday and €30 for a full weekend pass.

Although more than 40 artists are expected to perform, the complete lineup has not yet been announced. The identities of the participating artists also remain undisclosed.

Similarly, organisers have not released the detailed programme for the two-day event. Attendance projections have also not been made public.

Whether Mirror World will become a recurring annual event in Europe has not been confirmed. Nyege Nyege’s international expansion has developed steadily over more than a decade.

While many people associate the brand with its annual Uganda music festival, its activities now continue throughout the year.

Its artists, touring network and creative collaborations have helped extend the festival’s reach to audiences across multiple continents.

That expansion has also created more international performance opportunities for Ugandan and African artists, allowing them to showcase their work beyond the region.

The Brussels launch reflects that continued growth while remaining connected to the festival’s Ugandan roots.

The arrival of Nyege Nyege Mirror World in Belgium also highlights the increasing international visibility of Uganda’s creative sector.

As the festival expands into Europe, it continues to position Ugandan talent before new audiences through music and cultural programming.

The event’s combination of live performances, exhibitions and film screenings reflects an approach that extends beyond a conventional music festival.

Instead, it presents multiple aspects of contemporary African creativity within a single programme. For artists connected to the movement, international showcases offer additional platforms to reach audiences in different markets.

For followers of the festival, the Brussels edition signals another step in Nyege Nyege’s continued evolution beyond its original home in Uganda.

What’s Next?

The next confirmed milestone is the launch of Nyege Nyege Mirror World on September 25 and 26, 2026, at La Fabriek CityGate in Brussels.

More than 40 artists are expected to perform across three stages, alongside exhibitions, film screenings and immersive cultural experiences.

Ahead of the event, Wave One tickets remain on sale for Friday, Saturday and weekend attendance. Additional details, including the full artist lineup and programme schedule, have not yet been announced.

The launch of Nyege Nyege Mirror World marks a significant moment in the festival’s international journey, demonstrating how a cultural event that began in Uganda has expanded through touring, collaborations and creative programming to reach audiences across several continents while continuing to build on its original foundation.
