Ugandan singer Latinum, whose real name is Tonny Mbangira, has found himself at the center of controversy after being arrested following a road accident in Kampala that has since sparked allegations of theft.
The musician was reportedly involved in a collision along Nsambya Road on Wednesday, an incident that attracted the attention of motorists, pedestrians, and law enforcement officers.
According to information obtained from sources familiar with the matter, the accident involved a Mercedes-Benz whose owner later accused the singer of stealing valuables that allegedly disappeared shortly after the crash.
The complainant claims that cash amounting to Shs2 million and a laptop computer could not be traced following the incident.
The allegations prompted police officers who had responded to the accident scene to take immediate action.
Latinum was subsequently arrested and transported to Kirombe Police Station, where he is currently being held as investigations continue.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the situation quickly escalated from a routine traffic accident into a criminal investigation after the owner of the luxury vehicle raised concerns about the missing property.

Several bystanders reportedly gathered around the accident scene as police officers questioned those involved before making the arrest.
Videos and photos circulating on social media show a visibly frustrated Latinum being escorted by security personnel shortly after the incident.
Witnesses say the singer repeatedly denied wrongdoing and appeared surprised by the accusations levelled against him.
As officers led him away, Latinum was heard appealing to friends and colleagues who were present at the scene.
“Record everything. I am being harassed,” the singer reportedly said while being escorted to the police vehicle.
The statement has since generated mixed reactions online, with some fans calling for patience until investigations are concluded while others have urged authorities to thoroughly examine the allegations.
Police have not yet issued a comprehensive statement detailing what exactly transpired between the accident and the reported disappearance of the items.
Investigators are expected to record statements from the vehicle owner, eyewitnesses, and other individuals who were present at the scene before determining whether criminal charges will be preferred.
Legal experts note that allegations made immediately after accidents often require careful verification because multiple people can access a scene before authorities establish control.
As a result, investigators are expected to review all available evidence, including witness accounts and any surveillance footage that may assist in establishing the facts.
The incident has once again thrust Latinum into the public spotlight, with social media users closely following developments surrounding the case.
The singer rose to fame in 2016 after releasing his breakthrough hit song “Amanya Agange,” which earned significant airplay across Uganda and introduced him to a wider audience.
Over the years, he has remained a recognizable figure within Uganda’s entertainment industry despite experiencing periods of both musical success and public controversy.
The latest incident now places his name back in national headlines, although the outcome of the police investigation remains unclear.
Authorities have emphasized that inquiries are still ongoing and that no final conclusions should be drawn until all evidence has been reviewed.
For now, Latinum remains in police custody as detectives work to establish whether the missing cash and laptop were indeed stolen and, if so, who may have been responsible.
The case is expected to attract considerable public interest in the coming days as more details emerge from investigators and witnesses involved in the matter.
Police are expected to provide further updates once preliminary investigations have been completed and statements from all relevant parties have been recorded.
