A Naalya Secondary School student found hanging inside a toilet block at the school’s Bweyogerere Campus has prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The incident was reported on the evening of 8 July 2026 at the school in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Police said the deceased was an 18-year-old male student whose identity has not been made public.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, preliminary findings indicate that the student entered the toilet block shortly before he was discovered.
Police have since opened an investigation and are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators recovered a handwritten note at the scene that is believed to have been authored by the deceased.
However, police have not confirmed that the note was written by the student, and its contents have not been disclosed.
Instead, officers say the document has been secured as part of the ongoing inquiry.
“A handwritten note believed to have been authored by the deceased was recovered and has been secured as part of the ongoing investigations. Its contents are being examined and will form part of the inquiry.”
Police also said detectives and Scene of Crime officers responded to the school after the incident was reported.
The team documented the scene, recorded statements from relevant witnesses and later conveyed the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Owoyesigyire also shared what investigators have established so far.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was seen entering the toilet block shortly before he was discovered.”
Authorities have not announced any conclusion regarding the cause or manner of death, and investigations remain ongoing.
The latest case comes against the backdrop of previous incidents involving student deaths on school premises.
According to the available information, a 16-year-old student was found hanging in a dormitory at Seeta High School in Mukono in February 2025.
The source also references an earlier incident involving a Senior Three student who died after self-immolating while protesting her parents’ decision to return her to Mpoma Girls’ School in Mukono District.
Those incidents remain separate from the investigation now underway at Naalya Secondary School.
Police are continuing to examine the handwritten note recovered from the scene as part of their investigation.
The post-mortem examination is also expected to form part of the inquiry. Authorities have indicated that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
At this stage, the identity of the student has not been released, the contents of the handwritten note have not been made public, and no motive has been established.
The investigation into the Naalya Secondary School student found hanging remains active, with police gathering evidence and awaiting findings from the post-mortem examination.
Until the inquiry is complete, authorities have urged caution against drawing conclusions, maintaining that further updates will be issued once investigations establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
