Africano Nteziyaremye, a businessman in Kisoro Municipality, and his wife, Peace Kyompeire, were shot dead by unidentified gunmen at the gate of their home on Saturday night, October 17, as police pursued leads in the killings.
The couple was attacked at about 11pm in Zindiro Cell, Kamonyi Ward, Kisoro Municipality, while reportedly returning from work in their Toyota pickup.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said no arrests had been made as of October 18, 2026.
Nteziyaremye and Kyompeire operated a wholesale shop in Kisoro Municipality and were reportedly returning home after their routine work when the gunmen opened fire at the entrance to their residence.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the double killing and identify those responsible.
Tumushime said detectives, accompanied by a canine unit, visited the scene and examined it for evidence that could help trace the suspects.
“No arrests have been made as of October 18. As police, we are pursuing leads to establish the identity and whereabouts of the suspects,” Tumushime said.
The motive for the attack remains unknown, and police have not identified the gunmen or established how many people were involved.
It is also unclear whether the couple had received threats before the shooting or whether any property was stolen during the attack.
Police have appealed to anyone with information about the shooting to report it to the nearest police station.
The appeal comes as investigators work to establish the circumstances of the attack and trace those responsible.
The couple’s deaths have drawn attention to security in Kisoro Municipality, where they operated their wholesale business.
However, the available information does not establish whether the couple was specifically targeted or whether the attack was connected to their business.
Police have not disclosed the specific evidence recovered at the scene or whether any findings have helped identify suspects.
Police are continuing to pursue leads, but no date has been announced for the conclusion of the investigation or the release of further findings. It is not known whether suspects have been identified or arrested since the October 18 update.
The Kisoro businessman shooting remains unresolved, with the motive and identities of the gunmen yet to be established.
Police are asking members of the public with relevant information to report it to the nearest police station to help investigators make progress in the case.
